Issue Ghostbsd 01.24.01.1

The release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 24.01.1 has been announced. This new version is built on the basis of FreeBSD 14-stable and offers the user environment Mate. There are also unofficial assemblies available with XFCE. The default file system used in GhostBSD is ZFS. Users can choose between running GhostBSD in Live mode or installing it on a hard drive using Ginstall, a Python-based installer. The loading images for architecture x86_64 are available for download.

Here are the key updates in the new version:

  • GhostBSD is now synchronized with the FreeBSD 14-Stable branch, whereas the previous version was based on FreeBSD 13.2-Stable.
  • In the installer, the user now receives administrator rights and the password specified for this user is also set for the Root user.
  • The Update Station application now allows users to update the system to the next significant branch. This means that users can update Ghostbsd from a version based on FreeBSD 13.2-Stable to a version based on FreeBSD 14.0-Stable.
