FSB Nabs Math Khoroshilov for Cyber Attacks on Russian Infrastructure

Federal Security Service (FSB) Detains Mathematician Suspected of DDOS Attacks

The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has arrested mathematician Artem Khoroshilov on suspicion of carrying out Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks on critical information infrastructure in the Russian Federation, according to TASS.

Khoroshilov, who is currently being held at the Lefortovo Pretrial Detention Center in Moscow, had his arrest extended by three months by the Lefortovo Court of Moscow. He will remain in custody until May 12, 2024. The charges against him fall under Part 4 of Article 274.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to unlawful impact on critical information infrastructure.

During the course of the investigation, Khoroshilov has admitted guilt and expressed his willingness to cooperate in order to establish all the details of the crime.

Open sources indicate that Artem Leonidovich Khoroshilov is a graduate of the Moscow Physics and Technical Institute. In 2019, he successfully defended his dissertation to obtain the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the Institute of General Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
