Beluga spotted in Seine was euthanized during its transport to Ouistreham

The state of health of the cetacean was very alarming when it extraction of an Eure lock for its return to sea.

The Beluga, which had been discovered more than a week ago in the Seine, had to be euthanized when it was transferred from an Eure lock to the port of Ouistreham (Calvados), announced the prefecture from the Normandy department.

“Despite an unprecedented Béluga rescue operation, we have the sadness to announce the death of the cetacean,” said Calvados prefecture on Twitter.

At around 4 am, the cetacean of almost 800 kilos was raised in a net towed by a crane and deposited on a barge. He was immediately taken care of by a dozen veterinarians. His state of health had been deemed “alarming”.
