Repression does not weaken more than anger in Iran. “During the troubles of the past few days, 450 rioters have been arrested” in the province of Mazandaran, in the north of the country, said the province’s prosecutor, Mohammad Karimi, quoted by the official news agency Irna. More than 700 people have already been arrested according to this agency, for having participated in protests against the death, on September 16, of Mahsa Amini, after she was arrested and held by the mores of morals for “inappropriate port of clothes” .

According to an official non -detailed assessment, including demonstrators and police, 41 people were killed in ten days of protests. But the assessment could be heavier, the NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), based in Oslo, reporting at least 57 demonstrators killed.

Since September 16, the protest movement has spread to several cities in the country, where demonstrators have shouted slogans hostile to power, according to local media. “In the past few days, rioters have attacked government buildings and damaged public goods in certain regions of Mazandaran under the direction of foreign agents,” said Mohammad Karimi.

Sunday, the head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejeï, threatened to be “no indulgence” vis-à-vis the demonstrators and called the forces of the order to act “firmly” against “those who undermine security”. The Islamic Republic enforces a strict dress code for women, in particular concerning the wearing of the Islamic veil.

The Tasnim news agency published on Monday about twenty photos of demonstrators including women in various streets of Qom, an important Shiite holy city located nearly 150 kilometers south of the capital. The military and security institutions published these images of the “leaders of the riots” and called the inhabitants to “identify and inform the authorities”, added the agency.
