Uber will give its drivers the opportunity to choose their races according to the destination and the price, a feature that drivers have been demanding for a long time. The driver will therefore now have the amount he will earn, as well as the final destination, before accepting the race. “It will be easier for drivers to decide if a race is worth the time and effort” required, ensures the car booking platform with driver (VTC), in a press release Friday July 29.
Uber is engaged in a long -term battle to prove that the economic model it has created, that of the “Gig Economy” (economy of jobs), is viable economically and socially. The status of self -employed worker for drivers, essential to this model, is disputed in many American countries and states.
The new request for requests has been tested in several cities this year and will be extended in the United States for the coming months, the press release said. Uber ensures that the tests were positive for passengers too, “with more races carried out and less waiting”. Many drivers have the impression of having the disadvantages of independence, without the advantages.
The “trip radar” tool could change the situation
The company based in San Francisco had already tried similar options during the campaign for the Californian referendum of 2020 on the status of drivers.
The status of contract workers had won, but many drivers had then reproached the group for having abolished or emptied of their substance the features which gave them more independence.
Uber struggled to bring back his drivers leaving the pandemic, and therefore to meet the high demand. In May, the company announced that it would invest more in its offer for drivers.
The Friday press release mentions another tool, “Trip radar”, which will allow drivers to see a list of other races around, “to have the possibility of choosing another which works better for them”.
The VTC giant will also offer them a bank card with associated advantages, in particular to save on the price of fuel, which has increased considerably.
