Guadeloupe: mayor of Gosier placed in police custody

Cédric Cornet had been wanted since July 20 in a case of embezzlement of alleged funds. He was arrested on Wednesday at his descent from the plane at Point-à-Pitre airport.

The mayor of Gosier, at Guadeloupe was arrested and placed in police custody “at his descent of the plane” Wednesday, announced to the France-Presse (AFP) agency the public prosecutor of Pointe- to a pitre. Cédric Cornet had been wanted since July 20 in a case of embezzlement of alleged funds.

“A search is underway in two homes,” also said the prosecution, confirming information from local media.

A research mandate had been issued against the Guadeloupe elected official, Cédric Cornet, who had not presented himself to a convocation in a case of embezzlement of alleged funds.

The prosecutor of the Pointe-à-Pitre Republic, Patrick Desjardins, had then spoken of a “displayed will not to honor” this convocation, on the part of the councilor.

Condemned for sexual involvement on minor

The elected official was to be heard by the police within the framework of an open preliminary investigation “in particular of the receipts of abuse of corporate goods, embezzlement of public funds and active and passive corruption”, according to the prosecution.

Cédric Cornet had challenged, in local media, having been informed of his summons and he had denounced, by a press release from his lawyer, a “relentless” against his person.

He also explained that he was “on a honeymoon” and said he was “ready to shorten him”, adding that he had no intention of escaping justice.

Cédric Cornet has been registered in the file of sex offenders since his conviction on appeal in 2019 to two years in prison suspended, five years of socio-judicial follow-up and 16,000 euros fine for sexual involvement on a young girl less 15 years old. He had been elected mayor of the throat the following year.
