The Israeli elected officials voted early on Tuesday, June 28, at first reading, a bill aimed at dissolving the Parliament, a key step towards the convocation of new anticipated legislative elections, the fifths in less than four years in Israel. The 120 deputies must adopt this bill in three readings in three readings. However, the parliamentary committee, which brings together members of the opposition and the coalition still in power, reported in the night from Monday to Tuesday of an agreement in order to complete these three votes by Wednesday 11:59 p.m.

By virtue of a power sharing agreement between Mr. Bennett and the current chief of diplomacy Yaïr Lapid, the latter will be Prime Minister after the dissolution of Parliament and, until the formation of the next government .

Coalition

mm. Bennett and Lapid had brought together, in June 2021, a unique coalition in the history of Israel including right -wing, center, left and, for the first time, Arabic training, in order to put an end to twelve years without discontinuing the reign of Benjamin Netanyahu at the head of the government.

But the coalition has undergone several setbacks in recent weeks and, to weaken it more, the opposition inflicted a camouflet on June 6 by bringing together a majority of votes against a legislation project aimed at extending the application From law to 475,000 Israeli settlers living in occupied West Bank. This law was to be renewed by June 30 without which the settlers located in the West Bank (Palestinian territory occupied since 1967) risked losing their legal protection under Israeli law. In the event of the dissolution of the Parliament, this legislation is automatically extended.
