Bad weather from June 2 to 5 will cost almost a billion euros, according to insurers

These figures include the damage caused to homes, cars, professional and agricultural goods, including harvests, specifies France insurers.

The bad weather between June 2 and 5, which have caused 258,000 claims in several regions of France, should cost 940 million euros, according to A first estimate published Wednesday June 22 by France Insurers, the Professional Federation of Insurers.

This is the second wave of strong bad weather after that which took place between May 20 and 23, with 93,000 victims, for damage estimated at 323 million euros. The total amount of damage is now estimated at more than 1.2 billion euros in fifteen days.

These figures include the damage caused to dwellings (410 million euros), cars (370 million euros), professional (90 million euros) and agricultural goods, including crops (70 million of euros), specifies France insurers in a press release.

65 departments affected by the weather

The state of natural disaster had been recognized on June 12 in several municipalities in the Massif Central, Ile-de-France or South West of France, affected by floods, hail or flows mud. In all, 65 departments had been affected by these bad weather, which had died and fifteen injured.

“These two meteorological episodes that have gone through France have had dramatic consequences for many of our fellow citizens,” said France Insurers Florence Lustman, adding that the Federation would support insured.
