The case of the Norman deputy Renaissance (formerly La République en Marche) Sira Sylla agitated the presidential majority until the last moment. The forty-something man was finally invested in the legislative elections in the 4 e district of Seine-Maritime, despite the accusations of moral harassment formulated against him by several former parliamentary assistants and her judicial issues of the same Nature still in progress in front of the industrial tribunal. In this urban, popular and long socialist territory in the south of Rouen, which she had easily conquered five years ago when she had just entered politics, a victory in June promises to be less obvious.

According to our information, this choice, entirely orchestrated by Paris, imposed itself at the end of a standoff between the components of the majority, Renaissance and Horizons, the movement of Edouard Philippe, in mind. The mayor of Le Havre, anticipating criticism of all stripes, would have strongly advised not to bet again on Sira Sylla. In his place, the former Prime Minister rather saw one of his relatives, the ex-socialist Laurent Bonnaterre, horizons referent in Normandy and mayor of Caudebec-lès-Elbeuf, commune located in the constituency.

Should we see in the designation of Sira Sylla a bad blow of the “historic channel” macronists made to the ambitions of Edouard Philippe? The analysis of the distribution of majority inquiries in Seine -Maritime – rather favorable to horizons with five constituencies granted on the ten – does not encourage this reading, locally at least.

The decision to maintain Sira Sylla would be of a completely different order: not send a negative message to the African community, which seems to have a positive image of the deputy. In recent years, Sira Sylla, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the National Assembly and president of the France-Burundi-Rwanda friendship group, has notably accompanied Emmanuel Macron on several occasions in his presidential trips to Africa.

“slander”

When, in June 2017, Sira Sylla wins their historic fief in Seine-Maritime, this 42-year-old, in the nose and beard of the Fabiusiens in Seine-Maritime, shows the profile of a certain meritocracy The Frenchwoman: a woman of Senegalese origin, from a family of eleven children, who grew up in the Rouen worker suburbs with a father driver of bus, who became a lawyer specializing in labor law and social law. The table has darkened in terms of business targeting it and accusations of moral harassment emanating from several employees – his team experienced a significant rotation during the legislature.
