The government wanted to equalize the wages of state employees in order to eliminate the gap between different regions, write “Vedomosti”. At the moment, various measures are being discussed on this issue.
The basic idea of the authorities is reduced to raising the level of wages of state institutions in the most lagging in the regions in this indicator. Four industries are prioritized: health care, education, science and culture. For each of them, working groups were created on the basis of the profile ministry.
In this way, the Government is trying to solve the task set in the May decree of President Vladimir Putin from 2012. In it, among other things, it was said about the need to ensure the leading growth of state employees wage until the end of 2018. Rates for them were to be no lower than the average level of wages for each specific region. However, as the Accounts Chamber installed in 2020, this requirement could not even be late.
So far, the authorities only collect data on the real magnitude of state employees wages in a particular region. The next step should be the reform of the wage system – with a focus on the most lagging regions and industries.
