In Saudi Arabia, found ancient “funeral alleys”

In Saudi Arabia in the districts of Alula and Hibar, found an unusual network of roads, along which the well-preserved bronze age tombs are located. The results of the study are published in The Holocene magazine.

Opening made scientists from the University of Western Australia. A large-scale study included aerial photography, terrestrial shooting, study of satellite images and excavations. As specialists noted, the detected roads were the main ways of movement 4.5 thousand years ago.

Age of Finds managed to determine using a radiocarbon method. It is specified that the main part of the tombs was shown in the interval between the 2600 and 2000 to our era. At the same time, they were re-used, and finished doing it approximately one thousand years before our era. In total, about 18 thousand tombs were found, 80 of which were selected for further research.

As the TV channel told Matthew Dalton, the data “Feline Alley” stretches for hundreds, or even thousands of kilometers. “People living in these areas knew thousands of years about them. However, I think that while we did not get satellite pictures, it was not known how wide they stretch,” he said.
