In theory, a unique candidacy could have opened the door of the second round to the left. But it’s an impossible mission.

Analysis. Less than three months of the presidential election, François Hollande, Bernard Cazeneuve and Ségolène Royal will not be a candidate. To the point where the left arrived, some socialist figures refused to join the desperate Farandole of his contenders to the Elysee who are entitled in the wall in honk. For several weeks, the left, in the bertern in the polls, offers a desolate show between the bad vaudeville and the Grand-Guignol, as if it had not drawn any lesson from its collapse to the 2017 presidential election and had, de facto, renounced to return to power. The main postulants multiply contradictions, renounced promises and inconsistencies.
Let’s take Christiane Taubira. It is perceived as an icon of the left, haloed laws to which it has given its name: that of 2001 on the recognition of slavery as a crime against humanity and that of 2013 on marriage for all.

But the one that presents himself as a providential woman, in the wilderness of the left, is a political UFO. From left center? In 1993, Member of Parliament for Guyana, M me Taubira votes the investiture of the Government of Edouard Balladur. In 1994, in the European elections, it appears on the Radical Energy List conducted by Bernard Tapie who, with 12.03%, heonne that of Michel Rocard (14.49%), contributing to block the Elysée road to the former Prime Minister. In 2002, she is a candidate of the left-hand radical party in the presidential election, getting a small 2.32% that will play in the elimination of Lionel Jospin, which many socialists, starting with the private second round candidate, Let’s reproach him again.
In September 2021, the former seal guard of Mr. Holland had lamented, on France Inter, “the scatter” of the left, refusing wisely to join the cohort of candidates. “The stake is colossal, had she assured, that’s why the left can not afford to lose this election.” On December 17, 2021, 180 degree turn: M me Taubira “considers” to introduce themselves, provided you are not “a candidate more”. Despite the many calls to the Union, nothing is moving. Twelve activists, under the leadership of the (new deal) Pierre Larouturou, have even went on a hunger strike to exhort the left, on behalf of the climate emergency, to “appoint a common candidate”.
