Political analyst told possible reason for long absence of Nazarbayev in public

The former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev could have long been absent in public due to illness, the political analyst, head of the Eurasian Analytical Club Nikita Mendkovich, suggested. He shared his opinion with “Ribbon.ru.”

Earlier, Nazarbayev spoke with a video in which he stated that since 2019 he was a pensioner, and the current president of Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev possesses all authority of power. He also denied the conflict reports in the country.

Despite the fact that Nazarbayev repeatedly stated that he was well, since the beginning of 2010, numerous signals were made to deteriorate his health and performance, the political analyst believes. He suggested that the state of the ex-president could deteriorate because of what happened in the republic.

“As for the facts declared about relationships with Tokayev, oddly enough, I am inclined to believe. The question of the transfer of power has been going for a long time, and largely to the power of Tokayev could come thanks to the efforts of Nazarbayev himself. Therefore, I believe that indeed what “It’s no conflict at the level of the first persons there is no, although I do not exclude intrigue with the participation of their environment,” said Mendkovich.

The political scientist also suggested that Nazarbayev handed over to Tokayev authority to lead the ownership as, most likely, he can no longer be engaged in politics for health and due to the lack of desire.

The last time Nazarbayev was seen in public on December 28 in St. Petersburg, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the riots came in the republic, the Kazakh publication reported that Nazarbayev, his daughters and their families left the country. On January 8, his spokesman Aidos Ukibay said that the former president is located in Nur-Sultan and continues to work, being in touch with Tokayev and the heads of the state-friendly Kazakhstan. Political analyst Konstantin Kalachev suggested that the ex-leader of Kazakhstan could have been dead or was in a coma.
