Three main challenges for Russian economy

Russia in the conditions of post-shaped reality has the ability to increase the standard of living, productivity growth and technologicalness, but the country needs to be answered by three main challenges, the first deputy chairman of the Board of VTB Yuri Soloviev said in the RBC column.

The first opportunity lies in the climatic region, he is sure. “Today [Need] correctly use this increasing wave of climate and technological transformation in the benefit of citizens, business and the state as a whole,” said Solovyov. The market of voluntary carbon units by 2030 may amount to 300 billion dollars, and by the 2050th – trillion dollars. Russia has a chance to become a prominent player in this market, added VTB deputy chair.

He also called the second challenge, which lies in the field of raw materials and energy market. The green transition provides the possibilities of Russia to conquer new niches in the global economy, stressed Solovyov. Positioning a country as a center for the production of environmental goods can attract new technologies and create high-tech jobs, he said.

Third direction – digital transformation. The green transition can free up the significant amounts of labor. Solovyov rose an example of a modern Russian gas turbine that requires 20-30 times less personnel than previous technology.

Earlier, the government approved the strategy of the socio-economic development of Russia while reducing greenhouse gas emissions until 2050.
