Putin approved increase in minimum wage in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an increase in the minimum wage (minimum wage) in Russia in 2022 to 13,890 rubles per month. Initiative to increase the minimum wage and subsistence minimum belongs to Putin itself. On November 18, at a Social Affairs Meeting, the President of Russia stated that the indexation of a subsistence minimum was lacking in the draft budget of 2022 is insufficient, since inflation in the country accelerated. Putin proposed an increase in the indicator with an advanced pace compared to inflation – by 8.6 percent, in nominal terms per thousand rubles to 12,654 rubles per month. Since on the Constitution, the minimum wage amount cannot be less than the subsistence minimum, the head of Russia declared the need to index the minimum wage.

Putin drew attention to the fact that many social benefits are tied to the size of the subsistence minimum, such as surcharges for pensions and payments to families with children. In this regard, indexed above the level of actual inflation is necessary and pensions, he said.
