Putin declared creation of a genetic information center in Russia

In Russia, the Center for Genetic Information will be created on the basis of the All-Russian Institute of Genetic Resources of Plants named after N.I. Vavilov said this by the Russian president Vladimir Putin at a meeting on the development of genetic technologies, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Putin, legislation in the field of genetics should open space for scientific search and creating innovation in medicine, veterinary medicine and selection. “At the same time, it is necessary to clearly designate the limits of the permissible use of genetic technologies. We are talking about not only about the legal regulation, but also to the observance of ethical norms,” ​​said the head of state.

In his opinion, unique discoveries should not remain only a scientific breakthrough, but should serve people. He also noted that it is necessary to determine the procedure for the activities of the future national base of genetic information and national bioresourcing centers.
