Valve has published a beta version of the updated Steam game delivery service client for Linux. The release is notable for the formation of 64-bit builds and the transition to running the Steam client inside a container with the Steam Runtime. The change significantly simplifies the organization of Steam operation in Linux distributions. Until now, the Steam client was distributed only in 32-bit builds, which prevented distributions from completely stopping support for 32-bit CPUs and forced them to ship the necessary 32-bit dependencies specifically for Steam or package Steam in self-contained packages in the snap and flatpak.
The new version also offers a new interface for tracking and managing achievements when completing games. The notification settings window is adapted to work on screens of any size. Improved work with the library in offline mode. Remote Play includes settings to scale output to accommodate different screen aspect ratios on local and remote systems.
