Sudan: new sovereignty council denounced by United States and European Union

The United States and several European countries have denounced, on Friday, November 12, the appointment to the Sudan of a new Council of Sovereignty, which were excluded by the Bloc representatives claiming a transfer of power to civilians. This new council of sovereignty has been named, Thursday, by General Abdel Fattah Al-Bourhane, author of a coup on October 25th.

In a common statement, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland expressed “extremely concerned” by this initiative, “contrary to the aspirations of the Sudanese people and to the political and economic stability of the country “.

Restore the Prime Minister and the transitional government

“We strongly advise any new escalation and again ask for the immediate recovery of Prime Minister Hamdok and the Transitional Government led by civilians,” they added.

These countries have also urged the armed forces to “respect the rights of Sudanese citizens to express their opinions freely,” on the eve of a new day of mobilization, scheduled Saturday.
