Moldova residents asked to reduce gas use

Moldovagaz Energy Company turned to Moldova residents with a request to reduce gas consumption in connection with the announced anxiety regime in the field of energy.

The company called on the inhabitants of the country to show understanding and civil liability. Moldovagaz asked citizens to reduce the use of gas equipment at night and during the day, do not use gas for heating food and water and turn off the gas equipment when there is no one indoors. Unqualified consumers called upon to replace gas to another type of fuel and reduce the heating time of industrial premises.

October 13, Moldavian authorities declared anxiety regime in the field of energy due to the situation in the gas market. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure of Moldova Andrei Spõna stated that this would allow the state to take measures to protect citizens and ensure the country’s energy security.

Russia and Moldova signed an agreement on gas supplies in 2006 and extended it several times. Another contract has expired on September 30, 2021. Chisinau planned to conclude a long-term contract under 2019, but the parties did not have time to agree. To avoid lack of fuel, Moldova extended a contract for a month, but under the terms of the 2008 Treaty. The cost of gas for a month has grown from 200 to $ 790 per thousand cubic meters, since it began to depend on oil prices.
