Roscosmos continues monitoring emergency on Earth

Roskosmos State Corporation continues to monitor emergency situations by the funds of the Russian orbital grouping. As part of the commission of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, there are round-the-clock operational monitoring of flood and fire hazardous conditions, as well as other natural and man-made disasters.

Earth remote sensing technologies are an indispensable tool for learning and continuous monitoring of the planet, helping to effectively use and manage its resources. Developed by Russian Space Systems (Roskosmos State Corporation) Technologies and Methods for using DZZ data, allow companies to offer unique security solutions, enhance the effectiveness of exploration and production of natural resources, the introduction of the latest practices in agriculture, emergency prevention and minimize their consequences, environmental protection and climate change control.

In the period from October 7 to October 14, 2021, monitoring of the effects of petroleum products in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the place of falling the aircraft in the Republic of Tatarstan were carried out. As part of the activities of the International Charter on Space and large catastrophes, flood monitoring was carried out in Thailand. At the same time, on the basis of media reports on natural and man-made catastrophes around the world, the space survey of the following events was planned:

  • Monitoring of the Kilauea volcano eruption in Hawaii;
  • Monitoring of the consequences of the landslide gathering in Sochi;
  • Monitoring eruption of volcanic Cumbre Vieja, Spain;
  • flood monitoring and landslide in the Philippines.

In just the reporting period in the EMERCOM of Russia, Russian data of space survey in the amount of about 38 thousand square kilometers (6 shooting routes without taking into account cloud routes and routes passing in areas of interest of several applications simultaneously) are transmitted. At the same time, according to requests established as a result of finding news reports in the media about natural and man-made catastrophes around the world, Russian data was obtained in the amount of about 29 thousand square kilometers (10 shooting routes without taking into account cloud routes and routes passing by areas of interest of several applications at the same time ).

In the international charter on space and large catastrophes, Russian DZZ data in the amount of about 38 thousand square kilometers were transferred (8 shooting routes without taking into account cloud routes and routes passing in areas of interest of several applications at the same time).

Roscosmos State Corporation and Russian Space Systems support operational interaction with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for timely response to the emergence of a flood and fire-hazardous situation and the implementation of space monitoring of the affected territories.
