Arrested in June 2020 in Cape Verde, where his private plane stopped, the Colombo-Venezuelan businessman Alex Saab, 49, was extradited on Saturday, to the United States. It will be judged for money laundering. The Government of Nicolas Maduro denounced “the abduction” of its close collaborator and announced, in response, the suspension of the political dialogue committed for two months with the opposition.

m. Saab should appear on Monday, October 18 for a first hearing before a Miami Federal Court. He is accused of hijacking about $ 350 million (about 300 million euros) on foreign accounts.

“In order to express our deep disagreement against the brutal aggression against the person and the inauguration of our delegate Alex Saab, we will not attend the new round of negotiations that had to begin on October 17 in Mexico,” Declared on Saturday, the head of the Government delegation Jorge Rodriguez, without specifying whether the suspension of the dialogue with the opposition was temporary or final.

These talks (who are held under the auspices of the Norwegian Government) led the opposition to agree to participate in the local elections of 21 November. Mr Maduro seeks, him, to get the lifting of American sanctions that greek the economy of his country, devastated by an unprecedented recession.

In Mexico, opponent Gerardo Blalde urged the government to return to the negotiating table to try to find solutions to the deep humanitarian crisis that the country saw. “No individual is more important than the entire people,” Bllyde insisted.

Government detractors hope that Mr. Saab will reveal the workings and secrets of the phenomenal corruption that ruined the country, as well as the identity of all its actors, Venezuela and abroad. Some want to believe that these confessions will be right for Nicolas Maduro.

From a Lebanese family, Mr. Saab, 49, is from the Colombian town of Barranquilla. Arrived in Venezuela in the early 2010 and Nationalized Vénezuelan, he made a fortune by discreetly winning important public contracts, especially for the importation of food and the construction of social housing.

This is the information website Armando Info, which was the first leaned on this character of the shadow. When, in 2017, Alex Saab continues in defamation Journalist Roberto Deniz, the whole Armando Info team takes the path of exile. Is it a coincidence? Three days before the extradition of Alex Saab, the Venezuelan floor has opened an investigation against Roberto Deniz, who now lives in Bogota.
