Russia: there was a new chain of stores for poor

Moscow Trading Network “Avoska” launched the brand of discounters “Prodstladder”, writes “Kommersant”.

The first point under the new brand has already opened on Michurinsky Prospect in Moscow, two more stores appeared in the suburbs. The format of discounters is popular among an increasing number of retailers against the background of revenues of Russians, the general director of Infoline Ivan Fedyakov notes.

The network of supermarkets “Avoska” appeared in Moscow in 1999, the company has 50 points in Moscow, Moscow region and Tver. According to 2GIS, currently discounters and “home shops” are the only growing formats in the food sales segment. From 2017 to 2020, their number that is called stores for the poor has increased in a quarter country.

In May, it became known that the company “Spar Middle Volga”, which, according to the Dutch Retailee Franchise, SPAR develops the network of the same name in Russia, is going to open cheaper shops.

Previously, a competitor “Magnet” Retailer X5 Retail Group launched a network of “hard discounters” under the “Chizhik” brand. They sell cheap products for poor segments of the population. Unlike ordinary points, the range has been reduced there and the waste of goods is reduced.
