European Commission again filed a lawsuit against Poland

The European Commission (EC) has again filed a lawsuit against Poland in connection with the violation of the EU legislation guarantees the independence of the Polish media regulator. The message about this is published on the website of the European Union.

The Polish government in May 2020 has amended the legislation on telecommunications, which allowed the authorities ahead of schedule to dismiss the head of the electronic communications management (UKE). The head of the National Tax Administration was dismissed in Poland, the head of the National Tax Administration (NRA) was dismissed.

According to the EU rules, the conditions that can lead to early dismissal of the heads of regulatory authorities should be laid before the start of their mandate. “This is an important guarantee of the independence of the national regulatory body from political pressure,” the European Commission says.

The ECs stressed that the independence of the mediaologist is the fundamental principle of the EU telecommunications regime. This principle must guarantee an objective and unbiased operation of the regulator.

Earlier, the European Commission required to impose sanctions against Poland due to judicial reforms: the EU executive body came to the conclusion that the Polish state undermines the independence of the judicial system. Brussels demanded from Warsaw to stop the work of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court of Poland, which makes decisions on professional activities of judges.
