Palestinian militants dug a tunnel and escaped from prison in Israel

Six Palestinian militants dug a tunnel and escaped from a maximum security prison in Israel. This is one of the largest jailbreak in the history of the country, writes The Times of Israel.

Among the fugitives – Zakaria Zubeidi, commander of the “Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades” military wing of the Palestinian national liberation movement Fatah, as well as five members of the group “Islamic Jihad of Palestine” (some organization “Islamic Jihad” is prohibited in Russia). All the prisoners were condemned to a life prison sentence in connection with the attacks on Israeli citizens, all held as an especially dangerous criminals. Both groups considered terrorist in the United States, Israel and some other countries.

It is reported that the criminals allegedly using the tools, went to prison contraband, dug in his cell narrow hole and descended on it in the sewer shaft prison, which fled. They are expected to use the help of accomplices outside the prison.

The group “Islamic Jihad”, among others, was the worsening of the conflict between Palestine and Israel in May of this year. Palestinians fired at Israeli territory over three thousand missiles. In response, the Israeli army called on five thousand reservists and caused air strikes against targets in the Gaza Strip. As a result of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict were killed 12 Israelis and at least 230 residents of the Gaza Strip.
