NATO member countries believe that the strategic position of Kaliningrad holds back their strength and is a “knife attached to the throat of Europe.” It is reported by the Chinese portal SINA, RIA Novosti reports.
It is noted that if you look at the geographical location of the Kaliningrad region, it may first seem that the exclave “clamp” between European countries. However, in fact, the exit to the Baltic Sea makes the region strategically important and allows you to restrain the forces of the Alliance. NATO believes that the exclise is a threat.
The author of the article notes that the modernization of the naval base in Baltiysk will allow the Russian side to place submarines on a long-term basis. It is noted that rockets that can be launched with submarine can easily fly to major European countries.
At the same time, as stated in the article, the largest concern of the block causes the “Iskander” missile complex, as well as the S-400 anti-aircraft missile complex “Triumph”. The latter can keep control over airspace in the region.
Previously, the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ordzhonikidze called the New Naval Base of the Russian Fleet in the Kaliningrad region a strategic response of Moscow for NATO approaching its borders.
