Estonian deputy of European Parliament condemned EU intervention in affairs of Russia

The European Union (EU) should not interfere in the internal affairs of other states, including Russia. This was stated by the deputy of the European Parliament (EP) from Estonia Yaak Madison on Raadio 4, commenting on the report of the European Parliament on the revision of relations with Russia.

According to him, the EU should be focused on its own foreign policy and decision of paramount tasks, especially in matters of defense and the protection of the national security of the Union member countries. At the same time, the deputy, European countries, due to strengthening the safety and building of military potential, should strive to become an equal partner of Moscow.

Madison also advised the EU to recognize the election results in the State Duma, which will be held on October 17-19. If the West will make the opposite, he stressed, then the same should be done in relation to the presidential election of the United States, where millions of votes were missing for the election campaign “on officially confirmed data.”

On September 16, at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the report of the Lithuanian deputy Andrus Kubilus on revising relations with Russia was approved. The report voted 494 deputies, against – 103, abstained – 72. In the document authorities of the European Union, it is recommended to “revise the policy of the European Union against Russia (…) and develop a comprehensive EU strategy against the Russian Federation.”

In particular, it is proposed to counteract security threats and Russian interference in internal affairs, support the democratic society of the country and selective relationships with the Kremlin. In addition, it is assumed that the European Union should be ready not to recognize the results of the elections to the State Duma, if violations are revealed.
