Astronomers recorded collision of Jupiter with an unknown object

Amateur astronomers from different countries recorded the moment of the collision of Jupiter with an unknown object. This is reported by Science Alert.

The incident occurred on September 13, when astronomers followed the passage on the surface of the planet shadow of her satellite IO. At a certain point, the observers saw a bright outbreak. Making pictures managed to Astronomers Harald Poleske from Germany, José Luis Perreyra from Brazil and J. P. Arno from France. Video events were published on Youtube video hosting.

What exactly crashed into Jupiter is still unknown. Experts allow that this may be an asteroid size about hundreds of meters or a small core comet.

It is not known how often such collisions occur, capable of bringing a shock outbreak, visible from the ground. However, experts believe that this is quite often – from 20 to 60 times a year. The most famous was the collision of the planet with a comet Sumyker-Levi 9, which happened in July 1994.
