Russian Embassy rated interaction with United States in Arctic

Press Secretary of the US Embassy in Russia Jason Reholz in connection with the 25th anniversary of the Council’s education appreciated the interaction of countries in the region. His words report RIA Novosti.

Reholz recalled that countries cooperate on issues of mutual interest in the Arctic, including cooperation in the Arctic Council. According to him, the United States appreciates international cooperation in the Council, which “helps to preserve the world in the region, at the same time raising the level of environmental protection, as well as promoting issues of economic development, encouraging research and providing support for the indigenous peoples of this region.” He stressed that the region itself receives advantages.

Earlier, the American Ambassador in Moscow John Salvan stated that the United States intends to cooperate with Russia as with the Chairman of the Arctic Council. According to him, the collaboration of residents will help to increase the importance of the Council as the main site of the Priarctic region.

The Arctic Council was formed in 1996, as a platform for cooperation of indolar countries in environmental protection and the formation of sustainable development of the region. It includes eight countries: Russia, USA, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Sweden and Finland.
