Leaders of SCO countries adopted a joint declaration

In Dushanbe, the 20th summit of the heads of the state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) took place, following which the joint declaration was adopted. The text of the Dushanbe Declaration is published on the organization’s website.

According to the document, the parties agreed to political and diplomatic means to promote stabilization of the socio-political situation in Afghanistan. In particular, the summit participants noted the importance of “inclusiveness” of the new Afghan government, which would represent the interests of all layers of society.

Important place SCO leaders paid to the fight against terrorism and extremism, as well as countering international drug trafficking and corruption. In order to strengthen security, participants will continue to conduct joint military exercises. At the same time, the sides noted that they would not create a military union or economic association.

SCO member states also condemned double standards in human rights issues, politicization of coronavirus vaccines and the use of political sports. The document also mentions the need to strengthen the role of women in politics and society.

In the Summit, on September 17, chaired by President Tajikistan, Emomali Rakhmon, was attended by the heads of the SCO member states. Among them is the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirzieev. Chairman of the PRC Si Jinping, India Prime Minister Narendra Modo and Russian President Vladimir Putin participate in the work of the SCO meeting on video call.
