Borrel declared victory of Taliban over West

Supreme Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel in a conversation with the Spanish radio station Onda Cero stated that the victory of the Taliban (terrorist movement, prohibited in Russia) in Afghanistan indicates a clear defeat of the West, from which the lesson should be taken out Prevent similar actions in other parts of the world.

“We must endure a lot of lessons from what happened, first of all for Europe, how to have relationships with this part of the world, which refuses to take our values,” he said.

According to Borrel, Afghanistan was lost in no ten days, and for ten years, as Western countries “could not help create the foundations of the modern state.” He did not agree with the words of US President Joe Bayden, that the purpose of the operation in Afghanistan was initially only a struggle against terrorism. Borrel believes that the task of creating modern society, with institutions, which respect human rights, in particular, women.

In his opinion, the fact that the Taliban managed to seize the country so quickly, means that they “represent something social and cultural” for Afghan society. He also added that once again it was proved that “the militarization of diplomacy does not work” and that even “the best political ideas are not brought on the bayonets.”

Borrel stressed that the European Union as an institute cannot recognize or not recognize the new regime, this is done only individual countries. To date, “institutional recognition is excluded”, but the contacts with the Taliban are needed, he said.

August 15 “Taliban” (found terrorist and banned in Russia) announced the establishment of control over the entire territory of Afghanistan. The Taliban also announced the emergence of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. On August 31, the last American soldier left Kabul, after which the representative of the Taliban movement Zabihulla Mujahid said that with the departure of the last American soldier, Afghanistan became completely independent.
