Brazil: psychological violence against a woman

In Brazil recognized psychological violence against a woman in a crime. The relevant amendments to the Criminal Code of the country were adopted by the Upper Chamber of the National Congress, the G1 portal reports.

It is noted that the crime is in the “causation of the woman’s emotional damage caused by it and preventing it with a full-fledged development or aimed at the purpose of its addition or establishing control over its actions, behavior, beliefs and decisions.” At the same time, moral violence can manifest itself in the form of threats, intimidation, humiliation, manipulation, isolating, blackmail, ridiculous, restrictions on freedom of movement and other rights, as a result of which harm is harmful to psychological health and self-determination of a woman. This article implies a fine and imprisonment for a period of six months to two years.

In addition, the Brazilian parliament has increased the maximum detention period for causing injuries to women. Now guilty of this crime may threaten to four years in prison.

Earlier, a federal court in the Brazilian state of São Paulo fined the state for the sexist statements of the president, as well as some members of the government.
