Nine thousand migrants stuck in Colombia

In the Colombian province of Anthoquia, not far from the border with Panama, nine thousand migrants are stuck, seeking to the United States and Canada. This was announced at a press conference, director of the Migration Agency Columbia Juan Francisco Espinos, reports Reuters.

According to the head of the migration service, most migrants arrived from Haiti, Venezuela and Cuba. Espinos noted that the plug was formed due to the low bandwidth of the border points. They were unable to take people, massively heading to the country after the removal of restrictions aimed at fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Espinos also noticed that over the past period of 2021, 25 thousand people crossed Colombia. At the same time, during the usual year, the country takes up to 30 thousand migrants. Colombian borders with Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Panama were closed within 14 months.

On July 29, the White House published a new strategy of the Migration Policy of US President Joe Bayiden, which is aimed at combating mass migration in the United States. The main points of the strategy are to strengthen human rights, the development of economic growth and the fight against corruption and organized crime in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. 310 million dollars have already been spent on the implementation of the strategy.
