Tikhanovskaya declared beginning of a new phase of protests in Belarus

The former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya announced the beginning of the new phase of protests in the republic. The message about this was published in the Telegram channel of the leader of the Belarusian opposition.

According to the policy, due to the actions of the authorities, Belarus was on the verge of international isolation and turned into a “black spot on the map”, which threatens the new terror wave against citizens. “There is nothing more to wait – terror needs to stop once and for all. We are starting to prepare for the new active phase of pressure,” the report says.

Tikhanovskaya explained that as part of preparation for new protests, the opposition intends to strengthen international pressure on the regulation, expand contacts with the environment of the President of the country Alexander Lukashenko and local officials, as well as “to increase the structures of the partisan movement” within the country.

“We ourselves, Belarusians, must do everything possible to free political prisoners, stop violence and spend fair elections. We must act – the window of opportunities is open,” the opposition leader said.

Previously, Tikhanov said that the Supreme Representative of the European Union on Foreign Affairs Josep Borrel promised to introduce new sanctions against Minsk because of the incident with the airline airline Ryanair. She explained the opposition structures themselves insisted on new restrictions, but noted that the ultimate goal of the fight against Lukashenko should become “fair elections and democratic reforms.”

In Belarus, protests continued in Belarus after the presidential election on August 9, 2020. The reason for them was the estimated violations during the voting. Shares were rigidly suppressed by the police and riot police. Tens of thousands of people were detained, many told about torture and beating in insulators. Four people were killed in clashes with security forces, dozens – sentenced to imprisonment.
