Heman’s head of Herman Gref In an interview with RBC, it was impossible to appear in Russia analogues of the “Bunters with Reddit”, at the beginning of the year of the quotations of several companies and bankrupt a number of hedge funds.
“We have absolutely no prerequisites [to this], we have a very small market depth,” Gref said, adding that what happened on American stock exchanges requires a serious study.
“I do not see here a big problem – they [Investors with Reddit] simply got into the blind zone. I would not do any horror plate from this,” said the head of Sber. According to him, the state and regulators can limit similar activity and eliminate risks.
Among the possible measures, Gref called the implementation of risk management procedures, but called on to act neatly instead of “going along the path of the prohibitions.”
At the beginning of the year, the Investor Group from the Reddit service agreed to act together and buy shares, as well as call options (contracts that allow to acquire an asset at a previously known price). The greatest excitement caused manipulation with the paper networks of computer games Gamestop. Their quotations have grown sharply in a few days, and then dropped back.
As a result of investors’ actions with Reddit, striving to “punish” hedge funds who played a decrease in the value of shares (the main one – Melvin Capital), and banks that produced call options on them, many financial structures suffered losses.
