US Military Forces (Navy) ships will receive laser weapons capable of “killing” Russian (“Calibr”) and Chinese (YJ-18) Wing rockets, reports Popular Mechanics.
Magazine writes that more and more destroyers are equipped with the Optical Dazzling Interdictor laser, NAVY (ODIN), which can affect small drones, and at the end of this year, the Esminet Preble type ARLEIGH BURKE will receive a more powerful installation of High Energy Laser and Integrated Optical-Dazzler and Surveillance (Helios), which can destroy the approaching winged rockets.
Edition notes that Helios will be concentrated on a warhead or rocket sensor. In the first case, the enemy’s weapon will explode, in the second – will not be able to achieve the goal. “The Navy hopes that Helios will be able to become an effective anti-missile system capable of knocking down the approaching subsonic anti-relocated winged rockets,” the magazine writes.
