Iran on US addiction to sanctions, bullying and pressure

The US has a predilection for sanctions, bullying and pressure. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said this, quoted by Oress TV.

“However, this does not work for a country with a thousand-year history. We have a global empire that lives longer than the history of the United States,” the diplomat emphasized.

Zarif noted that so far he does not see any changes in Washington’s policy, and the current President Joe Biden is generally repeating the policy of his predecessor Donald Trump. The Foreign Minister believes that the United States should show real action instead of promises, since this is exactly what Iran needs.

According to Zarif, as soon as everyone fulfills their part of the obligations on the nuclear deal, then negotiations will take place between Tehran and Washington. They will not relate to changes in the agreement or any new provisions of the deal, the minister said.

On February 19, the Biden administration withdrew Trump’s demand to restore sanctions against Iran and agreed to attend negotiations between European countries and the Islamic Republic.

In January 2020, Iran announced the rejection of the agreements on the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Action Plan). In early May 2018, Trump announced Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the deal and the resumption of anti-Iranian sanctions.

The JCPOA Treaty on Iran was signed in the summer of 2015 between Tehran and six intermediary countries. Later, Iran was caught in gross violations of the agreements.
