US to impose sanctions against Nord Stream 2 without warning

The United States decided to impose sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline without warning. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the official representative of the US State Department Ned Price.

Price noted that Washington will not announce any potential restrictive measures in advance. He stressed that the US still considers the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline a “bad deal.” The ministry spokesman also added that companies involved in the implementation of the project risk being sanctioned.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden will present a report on new sanctions over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. It is expected that the document will indicate additional restrictive measures that will affect a small number of Russian companies, while German companies will not be subject to sanctions.

Currently, the construction of Nord Stream 2 has not been completed; a section of the gas pipeline is being laid in the territorial waters of Denmark. Work in the waters of the kingdom is scheduled to be completed in April 2021. In general, Gazprom expects that the gas pipeline will be completed by the end of this year.
