It is noted that during the protests on February 14, security forces opened fire on protesters in the city of Myitkyina. On the videos posted on Twitter , shots are heard, and people are scattering in panic. It is not yet known whether anyone was wounded, and what bullets the military fired: rubber or gun cartridges.

A state of emergency was introduced in the country for a period of one year. Upon completion, the army promised to organize new elections, after which power will be transferred to a new government.
