Lukashenka compared protests in Belarus and Russia

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko compared protest actions in Belarus and Russia. The video recording of the meeting of the head of state was published by the Pool of the First Telegram channel.

“We decided to carry out a blitzkrieg in August. Instantly overthrow the government or show that the government has fallen and bring NATO troops here,” Lukashenko said.

According to him, the main difference between the Belarusian and Russian events is that in Russia “they will be pumped for a long time.” “They understand perfectly well that it is impossible to carry out a blitzkrieg. All these investigations of the fugitive, but taken back to Russia, German protestor [Alexei Navalny], this is only the beginning,” Lukashenko believes.

Earlier on January 28, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei accused the opposition of trying to establish a “fascist democracy” regime.

On January 22, the former presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya predicted a second wave of protests in the country. According to her, mass demonstrations in Belarus will resume in the spring – at present, the protest actions are not so large-scale due to the cold, the opposition leader explained.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that at the upcoming All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, amendments to the Constitution may be outlined. Their adoption is possible only at a referendum. According to him, the constitutional reform will affect the political system, not the economy. At the same time, Lukashenka stressed that in recent years a lot has been done in the country towards the liberalization of legal norms.

In Belarus, protests have been going on for almost half a year demanding Lukashenka’s resignation and new elections.
