The head of AstraZeneca, Pascal Sorio, acknowledged the delay in deliveries of the coronavirus vaccine. This is reported by TASS with reference to a number of European media outlets.
According to him, the reason for the disruptions in the supply of the drug is a two-month lag behind the production schedule. He added that the problems are related to the manufacture of the main vaccine component, which in continental Europe is produced in factories in the Netherlands and Belgium. Sorio also promised that the company will be able to supply a “reasonable number of doses” of the drug to the European Union in February.
Earlier it was reported that AstraZeneca will not be able to deliver the expected number of doses of its vaccine to European countries. According to the German newspaper Bild, then one of the reasons for the disruption in supplies was a fire at a vaccine plant under construction in the Indian city of Pune.
