Number of victims of earthquake in Croatia has increased

The number of victims of the earthquake in Croatia has increased to seven, people continue to be in the rubble, reports the Croatian newspaper Jutarnji list citing local authorities.

Among the dead – a 12-year-old girl from the city of Petrinya, a significant part of which was destroyed by the earthquake. The bodies of the rest of the victims were found under the rubble of houses in the settlements of Mayske Polyana and Zhazhina. It also reported 20 injured people who were taken to the hospital in the city of Sisak in the central part of the country. Two of them are in serious condition.

Croatian military personnel are involved in search and rescue operations. The authorities are organizing the transportation of patients with COVID-19 from the affected regions to neighboring cities, some of them are planned to be placed in the Arena Zagreb.

A strong earthquake occurred in Croatia on Tuesday, December 29. The magnitude reached 6.3 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was 44 kilometers southeast of the Croatian capital. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake was the strongest in the country this year.
