Cyber fraudsters lured out 2.5 billion from Russians

In the third quarter of this year, cyber fraudsters lured away 2.5 billion rubles from Russians, stated in Central Bank . In comparison with the same period last year, the indicator increased by 32 percent, indicates TASS . In total, about 180 thousand transactions were carried out without the consent of bank clients.

“The growth of this indicator is explained, among other things, by an increase in the volume of transactions using electronic means of payment,” the Central Bank explained.

Earlier in December a new method of fraud was described before the New Year. It was reported that attackers are calling potential victims, posing as bank employees, and offering a lucrative loan, which is not yet on the site. Then the victim is invited to follow the link. Outwardly, this site looks like a personal account in a bank, where the client enters his username and password, and his account immediately becomes available to fraudsters.

Telephone scammers faced and the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina . She stressed that she had hung up and reminded everyone to do the same in a similar situation.
