The World Health Organization (WHO) has assessed the danger of a new coronavirus mutation that has been discovered in Japan. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told about it, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, this strain of coronavirus did not make the infection more aggressive. The WHO Director-General noted that the more the virus spreads, the higher the chances of new variations emerging. Gebreyesus stressed that this could lead to an increase in morbidity and hospitalizations, as well as complicate the work of doctors.

Earlier, the Japanese National Institute of Infectious Diseases said they had discovered a new, different from those spreading in the UK and South Africa, a mutation of the coronavirus.
