US Space Forces Test New Weapons Against Satellites

US Space Forces conducted a successful test of new ground weapons designed to suppress enemy satellites and protect military personnel from potential attacks using space technologies. The command for the training and readiness of space forces (Starcom) reported on the development of the new device, known as the Remote Modular Terminal (RMT). The RMT is designed to create interference and disrupt the operation of enemy satellites by overloading specific sections of the electromagnetic spectrum. With its small size, low cost, and remote control capabilities, the RMT is intended for mass distribution.

Lieutenant Dalman of Starcom stated, “This system allows us to significantly enhance the capabilities of electronic warfare in space for all new components of space forces.” The RMT underwent testing with two units deployed in different locations and controlled from a third point. Assessments of the system’s efficiency were based on criteria such as system delay, accuracy in targeting, and communication security.

The leadership of the space forces has emphasized the importance of developing new space and anti-space technologies. At the annual symposium of cosmic funds in Colorado Springs in April 2024, General B. Chens Saltsman highlighted the necessity of leveraging technological innovations and new opportunities to maintain a competitive edge. Failure to do so, he warned, could leave the United States and its cosmic forces vulnerable to adversaries.

The RMT was developed by the Square Service of Space Capabilities, a division responsible for rapidly deploying operational space technologies for the military. The system can be quickly deployed and utilized in both infrastructure-rich environments and field conditions. In combat scenarios, it is expected that the RMT can effectively disrupt or sever communication with enemy satellites that may be monitoring or targeting US forces on the ground.
