GNU tar 1.33 release

After almost a year of development a new stable release of the archiver was presented GNU Tar 1.33 . In the new release:

  • The POSIX specification has removed the process PID by default, making it easy to create archives that are fully PAX equivalent. The POSIXLY_CORRECT environment variable can be set to strictly adhere to the POSIX standard and include the PID in the header.
  • The “–delay-directory-restore” option has been adapted to work with archives in reverse sorting order.
  • Resolved an issue with extracting symbolic links hard-linked to other symlinks.
  • Resolved issues with preserving permissions on empty directories when using the “–no-overwrite-dir” option.
  • Only options related to file selection are now allowed in files with file lists (using options such as “-f” and “-z” allows you to bypass checks in decode_options).
