According to Judge Laura Taylor Swain, Tyurin’s sentence is “a total of 144 months in prison.” It is noted that after his release, the man will be deported to Russia. The judge also took into account the fact that in prison he contracted the new coronavirus.

In September 2019, Tyurin pleaded guilty to committing cyberattacks against a number of companies from the USA. The Russian was accused of hacking into computer systems and stealing information about 80 million clients of various financial companies. The affected firms included JPMorgan Chase, Dow Jones and 10 other large organizations that specialize in brokerage and finance.

In 2018, Tyurin was detained in Georgia at the request of the United States, after which he was extradited to the American authorities. Then the US Secret Service claimed that the Russian was responsible for “the largest theft of customer data of a US financial institution in history.”
