Maia Sandu officially became President of Moldova

President-elect of Moldova Maia Sandu has officially taken office as head of state, Interfax reports.

Sandu was sworn in during the inauguration ceremony on December 24, which takes place as part of a joint ceremonial meeting of the Parliament and the Constitutional Court.

The President vowed to “give all her strength and skill” for the prosperity of Moldova, to defend its independence and territorial integrity.

The second round of the presidential elections took place in Moldova on November 15. Sandu received 57.72 percent of the vote. The current head of state Igor Dodon gained 42.28 percent.

Dodon refused to participate in the ceremony of taking the oath of office by the new president.
