In July 2018, the French company Dassault Aviation published on its YouTube- Channel video depicting a European fifth generation fighter. The aircraft is expected to replace the fourth generation fighters Dassault Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon.

Work on Tempest started in 2018. The fighter should be ready in 2035. The development cost is estimated at £ 2 billion ($ 2.54 billion). The British company BAE Systems was appointed the lead developer of the aircraft. The fighter, which is to replace the fourth-generation aircraft Eurofighter Typhoon, will feature a high degree of automation and digitalization, and will also receive hypersonic weapons.
