Former opposition presidential candidate in Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called on the Lithuanian government to consider the possibility sanctions against the state-owned fertilizer producer Belaruskali if the enterprise continues to harass workers for taking part in the protests. Interfax-Zapad reports this.
The oppositionist suggested Vilnius to reconsider the transit conditions: “Belaruskali” uses Lithuanian railways and the Klaipeda seaport to export its products.
Tikhanovskaya also recalled that the Norwegian company Yara threatened to limit the purchase of fertilizers from the Belarusian manufacturer.
According to the former candidate, Belaruskali, being a state-owned enterprise, is in the president’s pocket Alexander Lukashenko .
“We ask you not to buy the products of Belaruskali, so that the money of these enterprises does not go to the Lukashenka regime. This is connected not only with Belaruskali, but also with Grodno Azot, Naftan and other companies that are important for regime “, – said Tikhanovskaya.
Mass protests against the official results of the presidential elections, according to which Lukashenko won 80 percent of the vote, have continued in Belarus since August 9. JSC “Belaruskali” dismissed 49 workers who took part in the strike.
