Woman ate sushi and suffered from hallucinations for several months

A 34-year-old woman suffered from insomnia, hallucinations and stomach cramps for several months after eating stale fish, reports the Daily Mirror.

American physician Bernard Hsu said on his Youtube channel that the woman decided to have a sushi dinner five days ago because she hadn’t eaten all day. The fish seemed a little sour to her, but that didn’t stop her: she just added more soy sauce.

Soon the woman began to suffer from insomnia and stomach pains. She complained to her husband about strange sensations: it seemed to her as if a fish were fluttering in her stomach. Then the hallucinations began. She felt like insects were crawling along the walls and under her skin.

She repeatedly consulted doctors and was hospitalized twice, but the prescribed treatment did not help, and blood tests and examinations did not reveal any diseases. This continued until doctors suspected that the woman was infected with an intestinal parasite. Stool analysis revealed traces of a broad tapeworm, a tapeworm that can be up to nine meters in length.

The patient was prescribed the anthelmintic drug praziquantel. To get rid of the parasite, a single dose was enough. The woman recovered completely.

In January it was reported about a California resident who pulled out of himself a one and a half meter bull tapeworm … The man admitted that for several years he ate sushi every day, which could lead to infection.
